The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) signed a business agreement on the establishment of an automobile laboratory with Infineon Technologies, one of the largest semiconductor companies in Germany.

Both organizations will establish DGIST-Infineon Automotive Laboratory and collaborate on studying automotive radars and applications, developing reference software and automotive semiconductor technology education among others.

Since 2014, the DGIST and Infineon have been maintaining strong industry-academia cooperation for regular technical exchange and cooperation projects.

"The opening of this laboratory will help increase the competitiveness of Korea's future automobile technology and enhance the capabilities of the Korean automobile industry that is a national strategic industry."

Headquartered in Germany, Infineon Technologies is the largest supplier of semiconductors to the Korean automotive semiconductor market with a market share of 13.1% and as a global company, ranks second with a 10.7% market share in the US$ 30 billion global automotive semiconductor market.
