Korean and Uzbek economic circles agreed to establish strategic partnership that will actively work with the Moon Jae-in administration’s new northern policies.

"I expect that the Uzbek government’s recent bold reforms including exchange rate and tax reforms and an improvement in public services will pay off handsomely for Korean companies,” said Park Yong-man, chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in his opening address at the Korea-Uzbek business forum held at Shilla Hotel in Seoul on November 23. "Opportunities for cooperation and a possibility of the development of bilateral relations have increased since the new administrations inaugurated in both countries."

"The Korean government’s new northern policy will be a key driver for cooperation between the two countries," Park added. "The New Silk Road Development project where Uzbekistan becomes a geographical link will also be a good opportunity for cooperation between the two nations."

Uzbek President Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev made a keynote speech at the forum on the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and Uzbekistan with Korean President Moon Jae-in indirectly conveying his congratulatory message.

In attendance from the Korean side were 300 persons including chairman Park Yong-man, Kim Dong-yeon, deputy prime minister for the economy and representatives of Korean companies of all sizes. In attendance from the Uzbek side were about 100 Uzbek movers and shakers including Uzbek President Mirjiyov, Uzbek Vice Prime Minister Kuchkarov Jamshid Anvarovich and Uzbek businessmen.

"We look forward to substantial cooperation in a variety of fields including trade, investment and infrastructure," Uzbek President Mirjiyov said in his keynote speech. “We hope to develop Korea-Uzbekistan relations into future-oriented strategic partnership based on mutual trust.”
