The Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy of Korea announced on November 14 that Japan’s total investment in South Korea increased by 347% from a year earlier and reached US$867 million in the third quarter of this year. 

The amount for the third quarter of this year is a 57-month high since the amount of US$1.24 billion recorded in the fourth quarter of 2012. 

Japan’s investment in South Korea began to decline in the first quarter of 2013. However, it began to rebound in the fourth quarter of last year, when the amount totaled US$359 million. 

The amount was US$407 million and US$412 million in the first and second quarters of this year, respectively. For the first three quarters of this year, the amount totaled US$1.686 billion, up 90.2% from a year ago.
