Foreigners’ proportion of total market cap of all KOSPI-listed companies rose to 37% level first in 11 years

On September 11, the Korea Exchange reported that foreigners owned 559.797 trillion won (US$503.8 billion), or 37.1 percent of the total market capitalization (1.508 quadrillion won or US$1.357 trillion) of all KOSPI-listed companies as of September 6. The KOSDAQ market also saw the market capitalization of foreigners’ stocks enter 26.852 trillion won (US$24.1 billion) which reached 12% in 10 years. The combined market capitalization of foreigners in both markets amounts to about 587 trillion won (US$528 billion), or 33.9% of the total. The highest amount of the market capitalization of foreigners’ stocks was 622 trillion won (US$559 billion) recorded on July 21 of last year.

In the KOSPI market, the proportion of foreigners reached 51.2%, more than a half in the electric and electronics industries. The market capitalization of foreigners’ stocks in the financial sector grew 64%, from the end of last year. 64% was the highest among industries.

By company, foreigners’ equities in Innocean stood at 15.98 percentage points, the fastest growth among KOSPI companies. Foreigners’ equities in LG Innotek climbed 14.69%p and LG Innotek’s stock price nearly doubled during the same period.
