A new route was created, connecting Incheon, Barcelona of Spain and Kumamoto of Japan.

According to Incheon International Airport Corporation on April 26, Korean Air launched an air route from Incheon to Barcelona. The 248-seat B777 aircraft will fly between the two destinations three times a week.

Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain. Despite a steady increase in demand, there were no direct flights between the two cities, so passengers from Incheon had to pass airports in Europe and the Middle East. However, Korean Air’s new route to Barcelona is expected to not only boost the convenience of passengers but attract transit passengers from neighboring countries.

On the same day, a ceremony was held to celebrate T’way’s opening of an Incheon-Kumamoto route. The Korean budget airliner will fly the B737 airplane (189 seats) four times a week. Kumamoto was shut down by a major earthquake last year, stopping Asiana Airlines’s non-stop service.

As a result, Incheon International Airport significantly increased its competitiveness as an air travel hub which connects Europe and Japan with Korea by securing routes to 37 cities in Europe and 26 cities in Japan.
