Industry experts say that LG Display is negotiating with Google over how to attract large-scale investment for the development and production of next-generation IT parts.

According to the IT industry on July 26, LG Display is reportedly negotiating an investment deal amounting to hundreds of billions of won with Google in connection with the development of a driving chip for a micro-display for virtual reality (VR), a next-generation industry.

Google is beginning to actively pursue global cooperation regarding VR technology such as making an announcement to develop a liquid crystal display (LCD) display for VR with Sharp recently.

It is said that LG Display has a policy to immediately mass-produce the product once its investment negotiation with Google is completed and is preparing to do so at production lines for plastic organic light emitting diodes (POLED) at Gumi Plant in North Gyeongsang Province. However, "We cannot confirm the negotiations," a company official said

Earlier, in April, it was reported that Google expressed its intention to invest one trillion won (US$900 million) in LG Display's flexible OLED production facility.

LG Display's share price once surged as the stock market interpreted that Google was willing to invest in LG Display because Google will load its strategic smartphone with curved OLEDs.

However, LG Display disclosed that there was no specific confirmation regarding the issue at the request of the Korea Exchange.
