Samsung Electronics will partner with Amazon, which provides video streaming services to more than 200 countries around the world, to lead next-generation High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology. HDR is a technology that enhances TV picture quality by making a bright spot brighter and a dark spot darker.

On April 20, Samsung Electronics announced that the company will provide various streaming services based on HDR10 Plus to consumers all over the world within this year through “Amazon Prime Video” App as Amazon's first HDR10 Plus content partner.

The HDR10 Plus is a next-generation standard of HDR developed by Samsung Electronics. In March, the Korean electronics giant unveiled its HDR10 Plus technology to the industry as an open system and is strengthening various partnership to expand its ecosystem. Samsung Electronics provides Amazon Prime Video in the 2017 Samsung QLED TV and UHD lineup supporting HDR10 Plus.

Samsung Electronics and Amazon have launched the world's first TV and contents based on HDR10, one of HDR standard technologies, in 2015. HDR10 Plus, an upgraded version, can remedy the shortcomings of HDR10, which can make a movie scene darker than originally intended by the director, so that it can realize the proper contrast ratio and clear color of each scene.
